Bricen's a Courageous Kid Camper!!!

My heart is blessed as I write this post.  Bricen had the honor of spending the weekend at The Center for Courageous Kids.

Their slogan "We Prescribe Fun" says it all

Only 3 years old, this camp was build to cater to special needs children.  During the summer, week long camps are held for children only.  Each week focuses on children with like diagnoses.  One week, the campers are children with cancer, the next may be children with vision/hearing loss, the next may focus on epilepsy, then Muscularly Dystrophy...well, you get the point.  The rest of the year, the camp is open on the weekends for the entire family, with each weekend pin pointing a different disability.  The camp host a full time staff, a medical center and acres of beautiful land, complete with pond.  The list of activities is almost endless.

Bowling

Horse Back riding (indoor and outdoor arena).  Notice the wig on Bricen's horse?? The horses were dressed up for Halloween!!

 Paddle boats

 Canoing

 Fishing

Indoor heated swimming pool

Each family is assigned a volunteer for the weekend to help ensure a memorable visit.

Rachel was Bricen's special friend.  She was super nice!!!

There is a theme for each weekend.  With Halloween right around the corner, this weekend was all about Halloween.  There was an outside carnival, where spooks and goblins (and the occasional Mario) could play games, ride carts and dance.

Notice his big belly???  It's the only time in his life he's had one!!

The attention to detail for special needs children blew me away.  The swimming pool area had a "warming" room to quickly warm up the children (as needed) as they left the water.  The dining hall staff was on the look out for children sensitive to noise, since they encouraged everyone to join in singing.  Bricen was rushed a pair of noise reducing earphones the minute he covered his ears.

Campers from all over the United States travel to CCK. We are blessed because it's only 35 minutes from my house!!!

Bricen was one happy camper!!!

Bricen attended this weekend due to epilepsy; however, he can also attend for vision loss, development delay and Muscularly Dystrophy.  Slots are first filled with children that have never attended the camp, then opened up for returning campers on a first come, first served basis.  We look forward to returning. Maybe we'll see some of you there....wouldn't that be fun????

Check it out for youself     The Center for Courageous kids
